This past March, OMPRN proudly partnered with the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation to deliver a four-part webinar series designed to empower and educate patients about the role of molecular pathology in cancer care. The series brought together researchers, pathologists, and patients to discuss topics like; how cancer develops and spreads, how molecular testing is used to guide treatment, understanding diagnostic reports and the growing importance of patient involvement in cancer care. All webinars were recorded and can be viewed here.

With over 100 attendees across the four sessions, the webinar series was a resounding success! Feedback from participants praised the clarity of the presentations, the relevance of the topics, and the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive environment.

This collaborative initiative with Wellspring not only advanced OMPRN’s mission to bring molecular pathology to the public in meaningful, patient-centered ways, but also laid the foundation for further engagement. This Fall, OMPRN has been invited to do an in person talk at the Wellspring Niagara location, where subject matter experts will speak directly with patients and caregivers on OMPRN’s microlearning initiative and relevant molecular pathology topics.

As an extension of our engagement with Wellspring Niagara, OMPRN has featured a special interview on our website with one of their long-standing community members, Jodi Steele, a physiotherapist who is a leader in oncology rehabilitation and the founder of Canada’s first cancer and exercise program. You can read the interview here.

Our collaboration with Wellspring is a model for how research networks and support organizations can work together to close the gap between medical research and the lived experience of cancer. OMPRN remains committed to developing resources that demystify molecular pathology and ensure patients feel confident, informed, and included at every stage of their care.

We thank all the presenters, participants, and the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation who helped make this series such a success and we look forward to what’s next!
