Biography

Dr. Berardi is a practicing Hematopathologist in the division of Anatomical Pathology since 2015, following his training in Hematological pathology and Transfusion Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2004, which focused on cell cycle checkpoints and epigenetic changes associated with cellular senescence and oncogenesis. His doctoral research was completed at the University of Calgary in Calgary, AB and the Hopitaux Universitaires de Geneve in Geneva, Switzerland. He is currently a Clinician Investigator in the OHRI Cancer Therapeutics Program and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is actively involved in national and provincial quality assurance initiatives and is a member of Cancer Care Ontario's Specialized Services Oversight Program focusing on Complex Malignant Hematology diagnostic testing and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation. Dr. Berardi is the Associate Medical Director of the Molecular Oncology Diagnostics Laboratory (MODL) at the Ottawa Hospital and has recently been appointed as Section Head of Complex Malignant Hematology Molecular Testing in the Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine DNA Laboratory. He is the Medical Co-director of the National Immunohematology Reference Laboratory at Canadian Blood Services and has recently participated in successfully launching a national red cell genotyping program in Canada.
