Available Funds
Up to $75,000 (Stream 1) and $100,000 (Stream 4). Up to four Stream 1 awards will be funded and one Stream 4 award will be funded.
2025 CPTRG competition

Key details:

  • Application due date: September 9, 2025
  • Funding amount: $75,000 (Stream 1) and $100,000 (Stream 4)
  • Funding period: March 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027
  • Number of awards: Up to four Stream 1 awards will be funded and one Stream 4 award will be funded.

Eligibility:

  • Principal Investigator (PI): a practicing, Ontario-based pathologist with an academic faculty appointment. For the purpose of this competition, a pathologist is defined as: EITHER an MD with certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or an equivalent governing body in another jurisdiction, in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology, Diagnostic and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology or Neuropathology with hospital responsibilities; OR, an MD or PhD clinical laboratory scientist with Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) fellowship or equivalent with hospital responsibilities.
  • Co-investigator (Co-I): an Ontario-based MD or PhD with an academic faculty appointment who crosses a substantial trans-disciplinary boundary relative to the PI. Examples include oncologists or other clinical investigators, bioinformatics experts and basic scientists.
  • Trainee: a pathology resident with an MD degree enrolled in an Ontario-based residency-training program or an Ontario-based CCMG trainee.
  • Patient partners (Stream 4 only): At least one patient partner who will be engaged throughout the project term must be named.

Project scope:

  • Stream 1 supports 1-year collaborative projects led by a pathologist Principal Investigator (PI), working with a transdisciplinary Co-Investigator and a pathology Trainee.
  • Stream 4 supports 1-year collaborative projects that build on previously OMPRN-funded research. These proposals must focus on translating prior findings into clinical use.

This competition places strong emphasis on mentorship, team diversity, patient impact and research feasibility. Scientific and patient partner reviewers will contribute to funding decisions.
