Biography

Dr. Ronald (Ron) Stead is currently the president of Holburn Biomedical Corporation, a company established to perform contract research; and to develop diagnostic and therapeutic products. He is also president of the affiliated businesses: Holburn Biotech Corporation and Holburn Biotech LC Inc. He has had several leading positions in diagnostic services and retired last year from 10 years as the Laboratory Director for Dynacare’s cancer testing laboratory in Bowmanville. Dr. Stead has more than thirty years of experience in pathology and immunology. Dr. Stead graduated with both technical and professional qualifications from the United Kingdom and Canada; and he is an elected member of numerous professional societies, including: Royal College of Pathologists (UK), American Association of Immunologists, American Gastroenterology Association and the Society for Neuroscience. Dr. Stead was previously employed in several pathology laboratories at universities and hospitals in England and Canada. He was a member of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University from 1987 until 2005; and he is currently an Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Tübingen, Germany. In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Stead has built research institutes in universities and the private sector. Dr. Stead has organized and taught numerous courses and workshops in pathology and immunocytochemistry. He is an internationally known researcher in the fields of mucosal immunology, neuroimmunology and mast cells. Dr. Stead has published over 90 papers and book chapters, an equivalent number of abstracts, several patents and numerous newsletter articles and reports for industry.
