The OMPRN will hold approximately 2-4 ‘wet laboratory’ workshops per year to enable small numbers of researchers across Ontario to develop hands on experience with established molecular techniques.

These workshops are open to both practicing pathologists and trainees within Ontario (and beyond if space allows). OMPRN workshops are free to attend. Registration is on a first come first serve basis.

OICR Biolabs: BioPlex 200 Multiplex System for quantitative analysis of cytokines, chemokines, and cancer biomarkers

The BioPlex 200 Analyzer, shared instrument, is a fully automated cytokines analyzer, which utilizes the xMAP technology (suspension magnetic bead arrays with multiplex capabilities, an evolution of the traditional ELISA assays) and is broadly used in life science research, clinical and cancer diagnostics.

OICR Biolabs: Real-Time PCR: Innovative tools for miRNA research and quantification by qPCR or dPCR

MicroRNAs are small, noncoding RNA molecules that direct post-transcriptional suppression of gene expression. Because of their small size and specificity, the study of mature miRNA and other classes of small RNA requires specialized tools and techniques. Here we will discuss the latest in miRNA research, from isolation, profiling, quantitation and validation to functional analysis. Advantages of using TaqMan® technology for expression profiling and targeted quantification and the newest TaqMan® Advanced miRNA Assays will be discussed.
